Fall in the south is a funny thing. The temperatures don’t feel “fall-ish” until the end of October/early November and the leaves don’t change colors until around that time either – but then it feels like they fall off the trees immediately, leaving little time to enjoy the foliage. It’s probably not really that quickly but it sure feels that way. But nevertheless, having spent my adolescent and young adult years in FL, I’m grateful to be able to say we actually have the season at all. In fact, I get really excited about it. Today I teamed up with PlaytexBaby to share five things my family and I love about fall. Spoiler: We’re super basic.
It’s hot in Georgia from about April until the end of October. The southern sun will getcha for sure. So when fall rolls around, we can actually enjoy being outside without sweating to death. It’s such a nice break to not have to seek shade and shelter everywhere we go. To kick off the start of fall, we recently had a family cookout/picnic at our favorite state park. The girls loved it because they got to run around the playground while their Daddy grilled and their PlaytexMom got everything set and ready. My girls get impatient while waiting for food, so I made sure to load up their Playtex® Mealtime Use 3 Ways Plates before we got there so they would be snack-time ready upon arrival. We love these plates because:
- They’re stackable and easy to transport without everything getting jumbled
- The colored plate/lid doubles as a second plate or can be used to insulate the white plate from the bottom (or vice versa)
- We don’t have to move the food from containers to the plate – the container is the plate
- The plates lock together at the easy-to-grip handles
- The separated colored dish helps with portion control
Side note: My girls don’t like their food to touch so we actually use the separated colored plate as the bottom and the white plate as the top. So, some would say that we technically use them upside down but that’s the way that works best for us!
Although we didn’t use the Playtex® Mealtime Use 3 Ways Bowls on our picnic, we also love those for many of the same reasons. It’s like having two bowls in one! I definitely recommend Playtex® Mealtime Use 3 Ways Plates and Bowls!
Yellows, reds, burnt oranges… I love them all! Fall clothes are probably my favorite simply because of the colors. Maybe it’s because they match well with my skin tone but even if they didn’t, I might still love them just the same! Fall decor also makes me happy, too! I decorate my home in fall colors pretty much all year round so fall is the one time of year when it makes sense! I save the scarecrow, corn, and pumpkin decor for the season, though. 🙂
Visiting the pumpkin patch is an annual tradition for our family. We haven’t gone yet but we plan to soon! There is one close to our home that has a sunflower field as well as a haunted hay ride for older kids and adults and bounce-houses for the little ones. It’s always a lot of fun for us and A is now old enough to look forward to it which makes it even better.
Speaking of pumpkins, let’s just embrace being super #basic right now. While I agree that the variety of pumpkin spice products out there has gotten ridiculously out of control, I cant help but love the classics – pumpkin lattes, pumpkin bread, pumpkin muffins, and all other delicious pumpkin desserts… like pie! I can pretty much do without everything else.
I saved the best for last. Thanksgiving is Todd’s most favorite holiday of the year and is definitely high on my list, too. There is something so special about breaking bread with family and counting, naming, and giving praise for our blessings around the table. There are no gifts, no fictional characters, and no hoopla – just being thankful for this life. Thanksgiving, to me, is the peak of the whole season.
I know you’re probably wondering why I didn’t mention Halloween. Well, I do love Halloween but not as much as some others. Before kids, I loved the parties and the costumes. Now, as a mom, I love taking my kids trick-or-treating and handing out candy at our front door but that’s the extent of it. I’m not one to go crazy over it like so many do. Oh, and I also couldn’t care less about football. 🙂
