Are my kids the only ones who come home starving every afternoon like they haven’t eaten in months? Just mine? I’d like to say that I give my children an I-grew-it-myself-in-the-backyard-and-we-harvested-it-together-as-a-family-and-had-a-STEM-lesson-while-doing-so-snacks but that just isn’t our reality. Reality is that I give my girls snacks that are affordable, delicious, and better-for-you than the many junky alternatives out there. I recently shared how we prepared my daughter for Pre-K and what a day in our lives look like during the school year so today I want to share some of our favorite snacks for after school.
Green Giant Veggie Tots
These are pretty quick to make and look just like tater tots. Green Giant Veggie Tots come filled with broccoli or cauliflower and are a great alternative! If you know me, you know I like to trick my kids into eating healthy food. These do exactly that!

RXBAR
RXBARs are great because the ingredients are clean and simple – both my girls and I can all say and understand them! They’re made with egg whites, fruits, and nuts. Plus, each bar is dairy-free, soy-free, and gluten-free, with absolutely no added sugars (mom win!). We’re big fans on these healthy packaged snacks.

Advance Pierre PB Jamwich
Who doesn’t love PB&J?! It’s a fan favorite with my girls. PB Jamwiches are great because all I have to do it take them out of the freezer before I leave to pick up A and they’re thawed by time we get home, ready to eat! It’s a quick, easy solution and holds them over until dinner (which is usually after 6:00 at my house). PB Jamwich comes with grape or strawberry jelly – both without the crust. My girls love to wash these down with a…
Fruit Shoot
Fruit Shoot juice is not only tasty and comes in adorable bottles, every bottle is made with real fruit juice from concentrate, lots of water and has no high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors. I usually split a bottle of the new Fruit Punch flavor between my girls (because sharing is caring, right?). A huge plus is that Fruit Shoot comes in bottles instead of boxes, so my girls don’t squirt them everywhere by accident. 🙂
Sensible Portions® Garden Veggie Straws
These have been a long-time favorite at my house. Sensible Portions® Garden Veggie Straws are non-GMO and are made with wholesome, better-for-you ingredients. They don’t have any preservatives or artificial flavors and are gluten free! I’ve loved these since before I was a mom and my girls love them now, too! Multipacks come with Sea Salt and Zesty Ranch flavors.
ENTENMANN’S® Little Bites® Muffins
Another long-time favorite, I remember eating ENTENMANN’S® Little Bites® Muffins when I was a kid! My mom used to keep these baked snacks at home and I love that my girls love them, too! With more than 10 flavors (we love strawberry and chocolate chip!), they have zero trans fat, no high fructose corn syrup, and most varieties have less than 200 calories per pouch. Another bonus is that they’re easy to eat in the backseat of the car!
Sour Punch: Real Rainbow Straws
Do you remember Sour Punch® straws?! Oh man, I used to love those things! Sour Punch® just came out with a better-for-you version of their Rainbow Straws. They have natural colors and natural strawberry, lemon, apple and tangerine flavors. The best part? No high fructose corn syrup (praise hands!). I keep these on hand to bribe reward A for good behavior.

Side Note: Twice a week, I pick E up from Mom’s Morning Out at noon. We then go home, have lunch, and she changes into her pj’s for naptime (at her own request) and she usually stays in them for the rest of the day, unless we have to go out somewhere. We then pick up A at 2:30 and both my girls start pigging out on snacks.
