I’ve never considered myself to be a “healthy” person. Writing that instantly makes me feel bad about myself. I’m not-at-all active and if ever given the choice between cheese fries and a salad, I will hands-down choose cheese fries every single time. Believe it or not, I used to eat really well when I worked full-time, though. I’m a woman of routine and taking a somewhat healthy breakfast and lunch to work every day was part of my routine. I would have yogurt and a banana for breakfast and then for lunch I would have either leftovers from home or a low-cal freezer meal and berries. Every day. Around 2:00p, though, I would find and binge on candy. Offices are always chock-full of sweets, aren’t they? Anyway, now that I’m home full-time, eating healthy has been a challenge. There’s just no time. My meals usually consist of the scraps from my kids’ plates to hold me over and then by time I have a few minutes to sit down and feed myself a meal, I’m starving and gorge on whatever junk I can find. It’s a bad cycle and I’ve realized I need to make some changes.
I mentioned I’m a woman of routine, right? Well, I think the answer for my dilemma is establishing a new routine for me at home. I’ve been so busy trying to get my kids in a groove that I’ve put myself on the back burner. Well, May 14-20 is Women’s Health Week and I’m determined to get myself on a more healthy path. At some point I’ll work in exercise but for now, I’ll start with what I eat. Eating freezer meals worked for me in the corporate world so I thought I would give them a try for my at-home life. To my pleasant surprise, I learned that Healthy Choice – a long-time favorite brand of mine – is also focused on women’s health (everyone’s, really) and has a new line of Power Bowl meals! Healthy Choice Power Bowls are made with a combination of nutrient-dense vegetables, proteins and whole grains. They’re inspired by Korean, Cuban and Latin cuisines (yumm!) and are packaged in new bowls made of plant-based fiber instead of plastic. Yay for the environment! What I love most about these is that I can recognize the ingredients, they’re made with all natural meat (antibiotic-free chicken and USDA choice beef), and they have bold flavors!
On top of all of that, they’re ready in just a few minutes and have 16g of protein and 6-8g of fiber in every bowl. In addition to the Adobo Chicken Bowl and Korean-Inspired Beef Bowl, Healthy Choice also offers a Cuban-Inspired Pork Bowl and a Chicken Sausage & Barley Bowl.
I know being healthy isn’t just about what I eat but it’s a good first step! Here’s to hoping I can figure out how to get some exercise in, too!
Oh girl me too and I really can’t afford not to eat well because otherwise it effects my nursing abilities. I am always grabbing for more protein and these have a lot of protein in them. I will have to check them out!

Yes! I remember those days. I was starving allll the time!
Yummy! I agree that so often I find myself eating the left overs of my sons meal and not actually eating anything for myself. These are a great alternative!! Thanks for sharing.

I’ll probably still eat their scraps in addition to these! LOL
Yes, routine and something easy are key for me to make healthy choices during my busy days. I think I should stock up on some of these, great idea!

Routine is SO important for me! I hope you love these!
I can soooo relate! I eat so bad at home sometimes because there’s literally no time to fix myself something and I just eat left over cheetos lol. These meals look good I definitely will pick some up at the store!

Girl it’s such a struggle! I hope you love these!
These look really good. Sometimes, well most of the times, it’s the lack of convenience that keeps me from eating healthy. A terrible excuse I know. These would be great!

Same here, girl! I feel you!
Those look yummy!!! I might need to start buying those!

They’re tasty for sure!
I’m always for easy, healthy meals. You’re on this these days, Shannon. 😉 Thanks for the ideas. With three kids and work, I can really use them!

It can be so tough! I’m so glad I found these! Thanks, girl! xo
I am an empty nester but I definitely need to look into these for my husband and I . We eat worse since the kids left! Thanks

That’s so funny! I guess you don’t have anyone holding you accountable anymore!
Well these look fabulous! Lunch is the hardest for me. I should pick some up. I haven’t had a frozen meal since I left my job more than 2 years ago. I guess I just assumed I would have time to make myself nice lunches. Ha.

Joke’s on you! LOL
Loved your confession at the beginning! I’m the same way and I think a lot of people are (they’re just hiding their 2:00 candy binges). I meal prep fresh food most Sundays but if I miss one, I’ll try your freezer lunches 🙂

You’re so good for meal prepping! I used to do that many moons ago!
These look good! Not going to lie, I like a good frozen, microwaveable meal for lunch!

Me, too, girl! There are so many good options and I’m glad I found these!
Yes! I still tell myself that I’m home, I can make time to make health meals. Umm no! These sound yummy for a quick lunch.

Time?! What is that?!
I totally agree with this post. I found myself missing meals and snacking on junk a lot when I was at home with my daughter. Yet I always made sure that she had a healthy meal, I just wasn’t as strict on myself.

It’s like we exert all our energy and concern on them and then get super lazy with ourselves! Not cool.
I hear ya! I know I ate a lot healthier when I was working. Now that I am at home I should be but I don’t as much. Its hard when you are at home and have access to a lot of different food.

So true! And I rarely, if ever, think about what I want to eat for lunch when I’m at the grocery store; I always am focused on dinner. I like having this easy option.
It’s especially hard when you work full time from home like we do! I just have to constantly say “I’m doing the best I can” when it comes to this stuff but I do love Healthy Choice!

Yes! We’re definitely doing the best we can! Thanks for the reminder!
