Confession: I’m not a beauty blogger and I’m not an expert in makeup. But you probably already knew that. What I am, though, is a soon-to-be 33 year old gal whose makeup routine seems to include more and more steps with each passing year. Yet, I feel like I have less time to spare with each passing year, too. Funny how that works. Gone are the days of slapping on some powder, blush, and lip gloss and walking out the door; this mama needs a little more work than that lately. Despite it all, I sometimes receive very sweet compliments on my skin, brows, makeup, etc. I consider myself a pretty low-maintenance girl so I thought I would share which cosmetics I use as part of my everyday 10 minute (or less) makeup routine; I’m no pro but it works for me. Side Note: I usually add steps/products for special events and photo shoots. Some of my picks may be considered a little pricey for some whereas some products are super cheap. So, it all balances out. Without further ado, here’s what’s in my makeup bag.
Mac Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation: I have been using this for about 12+ years (crazy, right?!) and I love that it’s lightweight and gives good coverage. I use NC35 in the winter and NC42 in the summer. It’s a little pricier than a drugstore brand but I rarely reapply it during the day so it lasts me a long time.
Wet N’ Wild Photo Focus Concealer: I just recently started using this after seeing it in Meg O‘s Instagram stories. I apply it under my eyes and on top of my lids (after applying my base). I blend it with a beauty blender. I hear Tarte Shape Tape is the best, though, so that’s next on my to-try list.
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Gold Deposit: I use this as a bronzer.
L’Oreal Infallible Pro Glow Powder: I use this to help set my concealer and add a very subtle highlight. I like it but I may try a loose powder once I run out of this, though.
MAC Powder Blush: I’m kind of a blush fanatic and wear a lot of it (probably too much but whatever). My go-to daily colors are Ambering Rose and Plum Foolery (depending on my outfit) but I also love Pinch O Peach and New Romance. I’ve been using MAC blush for over a decade.
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Lightscapade: I apply this to highlight my cheeks and nose. It can be subtle or you can build it to make it pop.
Mascara: Lately I’ve been using PUR Fully Charged mascara because I had a media sample and ran out of my go-to, Maybelline’s Volum’ Express Colossal Big Shot. I like the length and fullness the PUR one gives me but it tends to flake and clump if I try to add more than one coat. Once I run out I’ll probably go back to my Maybelline.
e.l.f. Brow Pencil: This is a great match for my skin and brows and stays put all day long. That said, I haven’t tried any other brow pencils and there’s probably others that go on more smoothly but I love the price of this one and it does the job.
e.l.f. Makeup Remover Pen: This is a lifesaver for if/when I screw up my brows or get mascara somewhere other than my eyelashes. It gives me precision when needing to remove just a spot.
Wondering why I haven’t listed any eyeshadow? I don’t wear any unless I’m having professional photos taken or if I’m going to a special event. My genetic dark circles benefit me in that I have “natural eyeshadow”… silver linings, am I right?
Lip Color: I actually wear a clear gloss most days because my lips are naturally reddish pink and because I don’t like leaving lip color on my kids’ faces (I’m constantly kissing their cheeks). That said, I am currently loving Beautycounter glosses and, of course, MAC lipsticks – my favorite shades are linked in the images below. I recently tried Ulta’s Juice Infused Lip Oil and think I’ll probably by a couple more shades of it. I also like glosses from LORAC, Smashbox, and Bobbi Brown but my favorite colors must’ve been special editions because I can’t find them online to link for you. I like that the brands are light, smooth, and not sticky.
Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray: I swear by this stuff. I don’t use it everyday – mostly when I know my day will be especially long or if I’m going to be outside in the heat. It’s a must for photo shoots and special events, though. Y’all, I used this on my makeup the day I had an unmedicated birth and my makeup didn’t budge. I also used it when I took maternity photos outside in 106* heat and my face looked great. It’s worth every penny.
