Current Makeup Favorites: April 2018

I have been on a hella makeup kick lately, y’all. It all started with my sharing What’s in My Makeup Bag and then venturing out into the world of beauty, trying to find what works to make me feel like my best self. I’ve been buying and trying different products recommended to me by friends (one specifically who is a professional make-up artist) and beauty bloggers. Today I’m sharing what I currently have in my makeup arsenal; I use a combination of drugstore and high-end brands. If you’re not following me on Instagram, send me a request with an accompanying DM (so I know to accept your request) to see it in action in my Story Highlights!

Face

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation: After over a decade of being dedicated to my trusty MAC StudioFix Powder Plus Foundation, I was finally convinced that my aging skin needed a little something extra. I purchased this after my MUA friend used it on me for a wedding. I like that it has good coverage but isn’t too heavy. My shade is 220. You can find your shade at findation.com as long as you know your shade in at least one other brand.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Corrector: My dark undereye circles need some extra TLC these days and this helps balance the color out for me, even if it makes me look like a clown at first. I use Deep Peach.

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer: Everyone says this is the “holy grail” of concealers and I can see why. It provides a thick, full coverage without feeling heavy. It creased in my lines at first but then I learned the art of baking and that was no longer an issue. I also use it to highlight my nose, forehead, and chin. My shade is Light Medium Honey (which is about 2 shades lighter than the rest of my face)

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder: This came highly recommended and is worth every cent! I use it to bake my concealer and to set my foundation. It leaves me with a smooth finish and keeps my concealer and foundation from settling and creasing in my fine lines (I have a couple deep lines, too).

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer: I randomly picked this up at Ulta awhile ago and love it! The chocolate scent caught me off guard at first but I like it. I use this as a bronzer and also a contour powder. After reading the latest reviews, I think Too Faced recently changed the formula (they definitely changed the packaging) so I hope the new version is just as good! Side Note: I have gotten so many recommendations for Benefit’s Hoola Matte Bronzer so I’m definitely going to try that next and will report back!

Cheeks

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Lightscapade: I apply this to highlight my cheeks and nose. It can be subtle or you can build it to make it pop.

Sephora Collection Golden Hour Luminizing Powder: I recently purchased this in Dawn, which is a pretty shade of gold. I love that it’s not too thick but can be built upon. I’m a huge fan of this… and the price.

Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter: Y’all. This is only $6 and I love it. It was a “Meh, why not?!” purchase on New Year’s Eve and it’s gotten a ton of use out of me.

NYX Ombre Blush: So, I’m kind of a blush fanatic. The more pigment the better. I recently discovered this blush (I have “Nude to Me” and “Sweet Spring”) and love them. I don’t think I’ve used any of my MAC shades since I got these. Plus, the price is right, too!

Eyes

Wet n Wild Megalast Retractable Eyeliner: For my day-to-day look, I only tightline my eyes (I apply liner to the upper waterline below the lashes). This seems to do the job pretty well for that purpose. Plus, it’s only $2. So there’s that.

e.l.f. Brow Pencil: This is a great match for my skin and brows and stays put all day long. That said, I haven’t tried any other brow pencils and there’s probably others that go on more smoothly but I love the price of this one and it does the job. Both Taupe and Neutral Brown work for me.

Mascara: Up until a couple days ago, I have been using L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara and am a big fan. Well, the last time I was at Ulta I decided to pick up a mini-size of Benefit’s BADgal BANG! Mascara and I love it so far!

Lips

Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color:  I’m usually a lip gloss girl but I recently bought 3 new shades of this lipstick, mainly because I wanted to try the Sazan Nude shade and also wanted free shipping. I love all three (the other two are Daring Dalalid and Grenadine) but am obsessed with Sazan Nude. I have literally never been able to find a nude shade that looked right on me and this one is perfect! It’s a little pricey but I’m super happy with it.

Setting

Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray: I swear by this stuff. I used to only use it sometimes but now it’s part of my daily routine since I switched to liquid foundation. This stuff is a must for photo shoots and special events. Y’all, I used this on my makeup the day I had an unmedicated birth and my makeup didn’t budge. I also used it when I took maternity photos outside in 106* heat and my face looked great. It’s seriously worth every penny.

Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray: So, I’ve already proclaimed my love for All-Nighter but since I have an oily T-Zone that seems to be slightly more noticeable since I started wearing liquid foundation, I decided to try this and I love it. To be honest, I’ve been using this and then spraying the All-Nighter on top of it. You know, just in case. I do feel like I’ve been less oily with it, though.

Brushes

EcoTools: I currently have three of this brand’s brushes on rotation and I love them! I bought them all separately, at different times, and have been happy with all of them so far. I use the Wonder Cover Complexion Brush, Precision Blush Brush, and Sheer Powder Brush.

BeautyBlender: Okay you guys. Let’s talk about this. These aren’t cheap and I was determined to not spend so much on a sponge but once I realized all the cheaper knock-off sponges I bought totaled up to cost me more than the beautyblender itself, I sucked it up and bought one. Holy cow, y’all. It’s worth every penny. I use it to blend my corrector and concealer.

e.l.f Powder Brush: I use this to apply my bronzer.

Real Techniques Sculpting Brush: I use this to contour.

I don’t have a highlighting brush listed because the one I have is old and kinda crappy so I’m going to buy a new one soon.

So there you have it! What’s in your makeup bag that you’re loving right now? Tell me below!
