Call me vain, but ever since I turned 30, I have become increasingly aware of and concerned about physical aging. It’s like one day I looked in the mirror and felt youthful and vibrant and the next day I saw lines and wrinkles forming and found myself actually considering Botox (no, I haven’t had any). I’ve received compliments on my hair and my skin my entire life and, if I’m being honest, am most proud of and happy with those features. To that end, I have a vested interest in taking care of (and preserving) both. Enter: Arbonne. I recently discovered Arbonne through an amazing independent consultant, Deirdre Sommerkamp, and have been using a number of their products (of my choosing) for just under 30 days now. Intrigued by their non-GMO promise coupled with the vast amount of options, I wanted to try a little bit of everything. So, I have been using some hair, bath & body, skincare, makeup, and nutrition products!
If you haven’t heard of Arbonne, here is little background: For 36 years, Arbonne has developed world-class products with botanicals and cutting-edge science. Arbonne’s promise has been to make pure, safe and beneficial products. Arbonne’s ingredient policy is what makes them different from the competition. All of their products are certified vegan, gluten free, non-GMO and some are certified kosher. They formulate without animal products or by-products, artificial flavors or colors, artifical sweeteners, mineral oil, parabens, phthalates, benzene, bisphenol-a, carbon black, formaldehyde-donating preservatives, hydroquinone, petrolatum, sodium laureth sulfates, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), synthetic dyes or fragrances, talc, triclosan, triethanolamine (TEA), and so much more.
Side Note: Did you know that only 11 chemicals and ingredients are banned in the US but Europe ban over 1300? The American Cancer Society indicates 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will develop cancer. Newer medical research is connecting those statistics to what we eat and what we put on our skin. What we put on our skin is absorbed into our bloodstream in 26 seconds. That means, what we put on our skin is important. Very important.
Also, Arbonne has a 45-day money-back guarantee on all products – simply request a refund or exchange.
So without further adieu, here are the products I tried that I know you’ll love:
It’s no secret that I color my hair; it’s visually obvious. What’s not obvious is that I spend entirely too much money having it done, much to my husband’s chagrin. Every time I go to the salon, I hang my head in shame when my stylist asks what kind of shampoo I’ve been using because I used to buy it from Wal-Mart & Target. But, real talk, I won’t be shameful next time he asks because I have been using the following Arbonne products and my hair has never been in better shape. It’s smoother and more vibrant, soft, and manageable than it’s ever been. All in all, I recommend these products.
Lustre Fortifying Shampoo (#4801): It smells great and you don’t need a ton, even for a mop of hair like mine. It has a great lather, which is always something that’s important to me – especially since I only wash my hair once per week.
Fortifying Crème Conditioner (#4802): It has the same scent as the shampoo and, again, I don’t need a lot to cover my hair. It’s noticeably more soft after using!
Hair Revitalizing Masque (#4803): I’ve used masques before and this one is hands-down the best I’ve used so far. It’s thick and creamy and coats my hair well. I also love that you don’t have to keep it on as long as other masques I’ve tried – just a few minutes will do if you’re in a hurry! Although the Crème Conditioner does a fantastic job on it’s own, this masque kicks things up a notch. I’m a huge fan.
ColorLast Hair Serum #4809: This is like the icing on the cake. Since my hair is color/bleach processed to achieve the balayage look – plus I use either a flat or curling iron every day – the ends can start to get pretty ratty. This serum is formulated for color-treated hair and keeps my ends smooth and frizz-free. Just one pump is more than enough to coat all of my hair. As I mentioned, since I like to only wash my hair once per week, I avoid applying this at the root.
Bath & Body
Showering is the highlight of my day. Nothing compares to a long, hot shower when there aren’t tiny humans hanging out in the bathroom with me. The tiny humans thing is pretty usual on the weekends, but I try to pretend they’re not there. Anyway, I digress. Paramount to having a great shower is having great bath products. I’ve found one from Arbonne that I love.
Detoxifying Rescue Wash #7320: The only way I can describe this product is to use the word refreshing. Seriously. My skin feels refreshed after I use it. The website says it removes surface impurities and environmental toxins from your skin. I love it. My only complaint is that while it does give a lather, it doesn’t get bubbly enough for me to use it to shave my legs and underarms like I do with my former body wash. But that’s okay – the clean and refreshing feeling I get from this makes the trade-off worth it, especially since I’ve been told that the bubbles in my former products are from harsh chemicals. So, I’ll just have to find a separate product to use for shaving.
For the past couple of years, I have been using products that come in pink packaging and have been happy with them for maintenance but haven’t really seen improvement. The products from Arbonne that I’m about to discuss below have helped my skin become more radiant and glowing and I can legitimately see and feel a difference. Now, what I regret is that I didn’t take any “before” photos because I was so eager to try everything that I forgot. That being said, since my skin has always been a strength of mine, I’m probably the only one who can see a difference. But I’m the only one who matters, right?
Firming Body Cream (#841): I love this because it’s thick and creamy and has a sort of citrusy scent to it. To be honest, I have only been using it in three places on my body: my neck, upper chest, and navel. If you’ve been following along with me for awhile then you may know that I have Diastasis Recti from my pregnancies along with some minor stretch marks and a little bit of loose, wrinkled skin – all around my belly button. Naturally, I wanted to see if this cream would make an impact at all. Well, I can honestly say that the wrinkles around my belly button – while still present – are definitely starting to firm up a little bit; the improvement is not drastic but it’s there. My chest and neck don’t have any issues to use for comparison but I want to keep them firm since they become will age-giveaways as I get older.
Intelligence Genius Ultra Anti-Aging Set (#4340): This is a three-piece set that comes with the following items:
- Intelligence Genius Ultra: I don’t think you can buy this on it’s own but I would be lying if I didn’t admit that the whole reason I wanted the set was to try this thing. Y’all. I’m obsessed. This little tool has a very slight pulsating ultrasound vibration to it that helps massage the product into all of the ridges of your skin! The warming levels are heavenly, too. It’s relaxing and stimulating at the same time, in my opinion. Some people pay $300 per spa treatment for this kind of effect and now I have one at home. This is my new favorite thing. Really. Check out the InStyle review for more information.
- Intensive Renewal Serum (#813): I have been using this every day as a replacement to the anti-aging pink-packaged product I had previously been using. I had to get used to the fact that it’s a serum and not a cream lotion, but once I did, it was all good. It sloughs off dead skin cells and increases the cell turnover rate to give a healthy glow, Overall, I really do think my skin is more glowing and radiant after having used this for a few weeks. I haven’t done a “fine lines” comparison but I really love the way my skin looks these days.
- Lifting and Contouring Eye Cream (#8083): I also replaced my pink-packaged eye cream with this one and honestly do feel like my eyes are brighter and look more “awake” than before – except for when I’m running on 4 hours of sleep or less (which happens far too often), in which case nothing can help my poor, tired eyes. This can be used on laugh lines, forehead lines, etc. – not just eyes!
Nourishing Facial Oil (#4331): This is my new winter miracle; it’s perfect for adding that extra bit of moisture from getting dried out in the winter. If your skin is more on the dry side than mine (my skin is “normal”) then you will love this all of the time. I applied it with my Genius Ultra and was sold immediately. The bottle says to only use a couple drops and I totally should have listened because I applied entirely too much the first time and had to dab it off with a towel. My face feels soft and moisturized when I use it.
Corrective Eye Crème (#814): I didn’t get a full-size of this but I wish I did. I used a couple samples as part of a sample pack of the 5-Step RE9 System. I can definitely tell that if I use it everyday with the other products that I will start to see a difference. I’m especially intrigued about the claims that it will help brighten my dark under-eye circles (something I definitely need help with) and would like to try a full bottle.
Night Repair Crème (#815): Same as above, I didn’t get a full-size of this either but I so wish I did. I also used a couple samples as part of a sample pack of the 5 step RE9 System. My thoughts about this product mirror my thoughts about the one above exactly. I definitely think it’s worth getting a full size to truly reap the benefits.
Mattifying Powder (#7381): My skin is pretty “normal” by definition but I do tend to get a little shiny/oily in my T-Zone. This powder is great because it absorbs the oil and takes the shine away! I keep it in my purse for touch-ups throughout the day but it can be used under your make-up, too.
Sea Mud Face & Body Mask (#7319): I was seriously so excited to try this. I rarely do masks. Actually, I pretty much never do masks. So, I really wanted to give this one a test drive. The fact that it’s green made me happy because reminded me of when my mom used to do face masks when I was a little girl. I should have busted out some cucumbers and took a snooze while it was on. Oh well. Next time. Anyway, this mask gave my face a good tingle – letting me know it was working – and even as it dried and got harder, I felt relaxed. It comes off super easy – just needs warm water. After I washed it off, my skin looked brighter and felt super smooth. I did have some redness (pictured below) but that went away after a few minutes.
Makeup Primer (#7825): I don’t use primer everyday, but maybe I should. This primer is thick and creamy but goes on thin and smooth. Like all of the other Arbonne products, a little bit goes a long way. I love this because it isn’t heavy and does a great job of prepping my skin for make-up. The key benefit of this is that is gives my skin an airbrushed-looking finish!
Eyebrow Gel (#7891): When coupled with the dark eye shadow I use to fill-in my brows, this gel is a game changer. It keeps my sometimes-unruly brows in place and is now a staple in my daily makeup regimen.
Sheer Glow Highlighter (#7821): I’m used to powder highlighters so I was intrigued by this liquid one. It’s not too thick or too bright and gives the right amount of shimmer. I really like it because I can control where it goes.
The photos below show a before and after using only the products mentioned above plus the CC Cream (Medium #7797), It’s A Long Story® Mascara (#7793), and Crème Concealer (Medium, #7866). All 3 of those products are great but aren’t ones that I plan to use every day. I tend to need a thicker concealer for under my eyes and prefer a thicker eyelash look. I also typically use a powder for daily use but will keep the CC crème on hand for when I need little more coverage but don’t want to use a heavy foundation.
Chocolate Protein Shake Mix (#2073): So, I’m not really a protein shake person. I so desperately want to be one of those people but I’m just not. That said, I decided to give this mix a shot to see if it would fare better than others have in the past. The directions say to mix it with water but I decided to make it into more of a milkshake by blending it (in a blender) with coconut milk and ice. I loved the consistency of it (kind of like a Frosty) and the flavor of the coconut milk definitely mixed well with the chocolate. So, I do like this mix better than others that I have tried. If you’re into protein shakes, you’ll probably love this!
